Vacuum Assisted Dressing (Negative pressure wound therapy) plays a major role in fast healing of wound. The components of VAC Dressing are as follows:
- VAC Machine
- Tubing
- Trackpad
- Dressing & foam
Advantages of NPWT:
- Quick healing of wound
- Increased Infection control
- Lesser frequency of dressing changes
- Cost effective as overall hospital stay reduces
Application:
VAC foams come in 3 different sizes: small, medium and large. The selection of foam depends up on the site and size of the wound. NPWT promotes wound healing by applying a vacuum through a special sealed dressing. The continued vacuum draws out fluid from the wound and increases blood flow to the area. The vacuum may be applied continuously or intermittently, depending on the type of wound being treated and the clinical objectives. Where NPWT devices allow delivery of fluids, such as saline or antibiotics to irrigate the wound, intermittent removal of used fluid supports the cleaning and drainage of the wound bed.
